Merri Scheitlin-Nordman: “Merri's talent is multiple, peaceful, colorful, at times abstract and almost photographic. What I see in these paintings is nature, therefore life. Both objects and humans have a face: ”inanimate objects, do you have a soul…” says the poet. The first event in France dedicated to Cindy Sherman since her solo exhibition at the Jeu de Paume in 2006. Her portraits, where she stages herself and plays various characters, are all questions about the identity and images of today.
The exhibition will bring together 170 works by the artist - from 1975 to 2020 - i.e. more than 300 images articulated in series, including Untitled film stills, Rear Screen Projections, Fashion, History Portraits, Disasters, Headshots, Clowns, Society Portraits, Murals, Flappers. A new series presenting male figures and couples will be particularly to be discovered. In a scenography conceived in close collaboration with Cindy Sherman herself, this presentation embraces the whole of her career, while emphasizing her work carried out since the beginning of the 2010s to a set of very recent works. and unpublished.
Cindy shermanst born in 1954 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. She lives and works in New York. Considered one of the most influential artists of her generation, she rose to fame in the late 1970s with artist group Pictures Generation.
