Biography
Shuck One : Artistic activities.
Born in Pointe-à-Pitre in 1970.
Representative of the first generation of French graffiti artists, Shuck One in 1986 seized the walls and underground arteries of the capital. His name is then omnipresent on lines 2, 9 and 13, strategic lines of the Parisian metro, which quickly earned him the title of "king of subway", but also soon opened up to the discovery of a larger and more personal artistic universe. .
In 1990, he founded the Basalt association, a collective of Parisian graffiti artists whose creative power and dynamism marked the decade: under the gaze of the entire city, the mural expression gained its letters of nobility. As early as 1991, this new creativity was widely recognized during the “10 Years of Graffiti Art” exhibition at the Palais de Chaillot, which brought together the great names of French and American graffiti. Until 1995, Basalt will ensure the influence of a truly French identity through numerous collaborations and events in France and in Europe.
In the early 90s, without giving up the wall, Shuck began to favor canvas. The contours of his lettering then tend to crack and dissolve in favor of the development of a deeply singular abstraction. Finally offered to the sustainability of the canvas, his works quickly enter public and private collections.
While exploring other media than urban space, the painting of Shuck One nonetheless remains in touch with primarily human and social concerns. While putting the individuality of the artist at the center of his artistic gesture, his work aims, beyond all borders, at the social and cultural emancipation of the individual.
