Biography

Claudine Ducaroir was born in Versailles in a family where painting and music were very present. She first chose to carry out scientific studies in plant biology which led her to teach this discipline at the faculty of Tours.

In 1975, she stopped her university activities to devote herself entirely to painting and to train in various workshops. Through the sensory approach of the Martenot method of teaching drawing and painting, she experiments a free gestural expression capable of translating movement and living things. She would later follow the teachings of the painter of Romanian origin Ben Ami Koller (1948-2008), a decisive encounter in her own artistic reflection and in the choice of the theme that she now explores relentlessly, that of the body.

Although attracted by abstract artists such as Bram Van Velde or Zao Wou Ki, Claudine Ducaroir is inspired by the body from a living model to construct a work on the border between figurative and abstract, graphic design and painting, where work prevails. intense line, drawn with a brush on canvas or paper. Lines and spots mingle in powerful intertwining, showing the artist's familiarity with both oriental calligraphy and the writings on the Chinese pictorial language of a François Cheng. The artist's first interests and questions towards the plant organism continue to shape his research when the bodies seem dissected and almost eviscerated by the work of the brush, an approach which, paradoxically, gives them a powerful sensuality.

Claudine Ducaroir lives in Saint-Cyprien in the Pyrénées Orientales. She has participated in numerous exhibitions and solo or collective exhibitions of contemporary art in Paris and in the provinces.
