Hello,

Discover in this newsletter the enigmatic nature of the movement and its representation by our artists

As an introduction, we offer you a text by Balzac from the novel “La peau de chagrin”:

“Everything is movement. Thought is movement. Nature is built on movement. Death is a movement whose ends are little known to us. If God is Eternal, believe that He is always on the move. God is movement, perhaps. This is why the movement is inexplicable like it; like him, deep, boundless, incomprehensible, intangible. Who has ever touched, understood, measured the movement? We feel the effects without seeing them. We can even deny them as we deny God. Where is he ? Where is he not? Where does it start from? Where is the principle? Where is the end of it? He envelops us, presses us and escapes us. It is evident as a fact, obscure as an abstraction, both effect and cause. […] Insolvable problem, similar to emptiness, similar to creation, to infinity, movement confuses human thought, and all that man is allowed to conceive…. ”

EXHIBITION OF THE MONTH

The Beyeler Foundation in Basel

Virtual tour of the Beyler Foundation in Basel.

Nestled in a sculpture park, the Fondation Beyeler, whose architecture is by Renzo Piano, is the most visited museum in Switzerland. Established on one level for better accessibility and flooded with natural light thanks to its bay windows, this outward-facing setting houses more than 400 works of modern and contemporary art presented by rotation. The collection notably brings together Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and Cubist works from the beginning of the 1950th century (Monet, Cézanne, Matisse, Picasso, Miró ...), as well as works of American art from the XNUMXs (Ellsworth Kelly, Barnett Newman, Mark Rothko …). In partnership with the Google Arts & Culture platform, the museum now offers to discover part of it via a virtual visit.
