He then directed several short films for television and cinema. In 1969, in the Henri Goetz studio, he learned engraving techniques under the direction of Riccardo Licata, of whom he became his assistant in 1971.

He wrote art critics in magazines, exhibited in Paris, Madrid and Venice in the 1970s80. From 1998 to 2010, he participated as an art critic in Jean Daive's program “Peinture fraîche”, on France culture .

In 2011, he created with Léon Gomez an art magazine on the Internet: “Le Pavillon turquoise”. Since the 2000s he has exhibited regularly in Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto, Nagoya) and in Paris. He published with Impeccables editions a novel “And then, and then again”.

    On Bruno Mathon's painting

I have never despaired of painting, she thanks me now by surrendering to myself.

After having come this long way; starting from nothing, contemplating the faint shimmer of the canvas, I crossed the representation again, then its deconstruction to return to the enigma that haunts us that of the emergence of form. Critical moment if there is one, because it is she alone who has the power to create presence, and this is the subject… The model.

Elusive model since it only appears through the act of the painter; model named after he freed himself from his matrix of absence, model after the fact.

The drawing saved me from abandonment, but also the sea and its solar shimmer, nothing but light and the immense empty space of water. There, swimming without haste towards the sun, I would have liked painting to be like this, carried by the infinitely repeated wave, its only meaning.

We say Venus born of water, I believe it without difficulty, nothing resembles the surface of water more than that of paper, and the beauty of love has arisen under the line of a pencil like a deposited dream " casually ”in this simple material of a beautiful Italian drawing paper.
